The 1925 Peace Silver Dollar, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, is a key issue in the historic Peace Dollar series, which was introduced to celebrate the end of World War I and symbolize America’s commitment to peace. Composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, this coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver. Certified AU50 (About Uncirculated) by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC), this example retains light wear on the highest points while still showcasing original mint luster.

Obverse Design:

Designed by Anthony de Francisci, the obverse features a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty, inspired by his wife, Teresa de Francisci. Liberty wears a radiant crown similar to the Statue of Liberty, reinforcing the theme of national renewal and peace. The inscriptions include:

  • "LIBERTY" arching across the upper rim
  • "IN GOD WE TRUST" split on either side of Liberty’s neck, featuring the classical Roman-style “TRVST”
  • The date "1925" centered at the bottom

Reverse Design:

The reverse showcases a majestic bald eagle perched on a rock, clutching an olive branch, signifying peace. The eagle gazes toward the rising sun, its rays extending across the background. The inscriptions include:

  • "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" curving along the top
  • "E PLURIBUS UNUM" positioned just below
  • "ONE DOLLAR" displayed in bold lettering
  • "PEACE" inscribed at the bottom, distinguishing this series from all other U.S. silver dollars

Key Features:

  • NGC AU50 Grade – A lightly circulated coin with only slight wear on the highest points, retaining much of its original mint luster.
  • Philadelphia Mint Issue – No mintmark, as all Philadelphia-struck Peace Dollars lack a mintmark.
  • 90% Silver Composition – Contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, adding both numismatic and intrinsic value.
  • Classic Peace Dollar Design – Represents America’s post-World War I dedication to peace.
  • Mid-Series Issue – The 1925 Peace Dollar was minted during a time when production numbers were relatively high, making it a popular date among collectors.

Collectibility & Investment Appeal:

The 1925 Peace Dollar in NGC AU50 is an excellent choice for collectors seeking a higher-grade circulated example with strong details and minimal wear. As one of the later issues in the series, it remains readily available yet highly collectible due to its historical significance, silver content, and artistic beauty. This piece serves as a great addition to any Peace Dollar collection or silver investment portfolio.
